SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH DEPARTMENT OF THE SOFIA UNIVERSITY (NIS-SU) (Bulgaria)

The Scientific Research Department of the Sofia University (NIS-SU) is responsible for administration and support of the research and project activities on a contract basis. It administrates 300-350 projects contracts annually, funded by BG National Research Fund, the EC Programs, and by the industry.

At present, NIS-SU is member of the Association of European Science & Technology Transfer Professionals and of the CERN TTOs Network. Its focus is on the education research, technology development and integration of “good practices”. Some of the core competencies of NIS-SU are in the area of biotechnology, microbiology, nanotechnologies and new materials, information and communication technologies, all main domains of contemporary ecology and environment protection education; etc. One of the leading research activities of NIS-SU are focused on applied methods of computational biology, biosciences and bioinformatics disciplines.

NIS-SU has expertise in leading projects at national and European levels, thus contributing to the local management, the smooth development of project specific actions, elaboration of project products, organization of effective measures for post-project actions. This institution is responsible for the organization and operation of the BIOTECH –GO training process, its evaluation and implementation. It organizes and performs the 4th TNMs in Bulgaria and participates in the others. Following the project dissemination and use policy NIS-SU will use its R&D contacts in the field of biotechnology and bioinformatics to support the canvassing activities of the project and ensure effective dissemination of project objective and outcomes.
